The “God People” Versus the “Nothing People”

BRUCE  LICHT

Did God create the Universe, or did “Nothing” create “Everything”?   That’s the question.

The “Nothing People” make statements like, “It couldn’t possibly be God.  Where’s God?  Can you see God?  Touch God?  Smell God?  Taste God?  Feel God?  Show us a picture of God?  Show us some scientific proof.”  (1)

The “God People” answer back, “We see God everywhere.  We smell God in flowers.  We taste God in fresh fruit. (2)  We feel God when He warms our heart and touches our souls.  Look at any photograph of nature, space, etc. and you can see God.  And the more science learns, the more it points to God’s existence.”

The “Nothing People” make fun of the “God People” saying, “You’re crazy to think that God exists.”   But stop to think about it – the “Nothing People’s Argument” is completely illogical, because one thing that definitely doesn’t exist is “NOTHING.”   After all, that’s the dictionary definition of “Nothing” (3)  That it does NOT exist! (1)

The “Nothing People” say, “Believing in God doesn’t make sense.”  But when you ask the “Nothing People’s Scientists” questions about their scientifically impossible theories, they ultimately have to admit, “We just don’t know.”  Well, how do you make any sense of having “no idea” at all? (1)   That’s totally non-sensical!

Now, if just for a moment we say, “OK, your ‘Nothing’ spontaneously exploded (not sure how “Nothing” explodes but let’s go along with this for a bit) and with time, all that ‘Nothing’ became ‘Everything”’…  Well, that would sure have to be some pretty unbelievably amazing “Nothing.” (1)  Almost a “God-like kind of Nothing” if you ask me.

If “Nothing” did create “Everything,” then ask yourself, “Why?”  Was it bored?  Was it lonely?  Maybe feeling a bit empty, being “Nothing”?  After all, the “Nothing People” say that all there was, was darkness.  That would sure get old fast.  The “God People” say God created the Heavens and the Earth and then said, “Let there be light.”   You would think the “Nothing People” would be absolutely thrilled, because they could finally see all their “Nothingness” everywhere. (4)

But do we really need to “see” God in order to believe in Him?  When you look at a beautiful painting, can you see the artist?  When you gaze at a skyscraper, do you see the architect?  Just because you can’t, does that mean they don’t exist?  They are all complex, so they require an intelligent mind to bring them into existence.  And our bodies are infinitely more complex than any art piece or skyscraper.

And these “Nothing People” believe that “life is all there is.” That when we die, it’s curtain down, lights out, zip, zero, nada. They believe we just decompose and merge back into “nothingness.”  Well, I’m confused… according to their initial argument (“Everything came from “Nothing”), wouldn’t that mean they merge back to their “creator”? (1)   Their “Nothing” that originally “created” everything?

Maybe they need to think this through a bit more?  Seems to me, when it comes to the “Nothing People’s Argument,” they’ve got “Nothing.”
